Are you engaged in the production or manufacture of goods, including building and construction? If so, have you thought about entering the Excellence in Production award in the 2016 Shoalhaven Business Awards?
Sponsored by the award winning Stormtech, this award recognises businesses engaged in the production or manufacturing of any product or good intended for market supply, ranging from the construction and building industry to primary production and manufacturing.
Types of businesses include those engaged in building works, civil engineering, food production, farming, supply of raw materials, manufacturing of finished goods, as well as mining operations.
We talk with Troy Creighton from Stormtech about the Awards, and the importance of the production industries to the Shoalhaven.
Why do you think it’s important to be part of the Business Awards?
The Shoalhaven business community is very rich and diverse. The Business Awards recognise this diversity and our local talents. Entering the Awards enables businesses to gain recognition of their achievement and the ability to share this on a community level. Further, letting people know about what you are doing and that you are doing it well will get new customers through the door. By sponsoring the Awards this year, we want to support the opportunity given to local businesses to showcase themselves.
Stormtech entered the Awards last year, and won two Awards. What did that mean for your business?
Personally, it was a very “proud” moment. It felt great to be recognised for what we have built over the years. It also had a massive effect on the staff, who felt incredibly grateful to be part of this success.
How important are the production and manufacturing industries (this includes building & construction) to the Shoalhaven?
Production and manufacturing in the Shoalhaven are essential for long term jobs growth and community support through employment and training. Regardless of the industry sector serviced, i.e. construction, defence, food production, manufacturing and production, the benefits to the community are immense. These industries require skilled employees, and they provide training and development, career paths, and many more direct benefits to the community. Further, manufacturing and production also allow the development of more support industries via the supply chain and logistics.
Workplace health and safety is important in all industries, but with machinery, becomes critical for businesses engaged in the production of products and goods. What advice do you have for businesses to ensure they are always 100% compliant and up to date with WHS legislation?
Being a member of the business chamber and also NSW Business is the easiest and simplest way as they have specialist advice.
What business resources do you read/follow/subscribe to in order to stay up to date with general business news and trends?
We are part of the Shoalhaven and NSW Business Chambers and they are a great resource for compliance in workplace relations, health and safety regulations etc. They also give great tips on marketing tools. We are also members of various specific industry associations, such as the HIA and the Master Builders Association. They are good resources for general trends in our industry.
What’s on the horizon for Stormtech?
We plan to expand our business operations in the near future.
What is the single most compelling reason (to enter) that you can give to a business owner considering entering the Awards?
The application process alone assists you in understanding your business better.
The Excellence in Production award is proudly sponsored by Stormtech. The Awards are open for entry until 5.00pm on Thursday 30th June, and you can enter this award here.
