After chatting to Nathan, Sean and the Shoalhaven GJ Gardner team, it is quite clear they’re all just as passionate as each other when it comes to connecting and sustaining the local community. Their latest contribution is the GJ Gardner Variety Freedom House, with all proceeds raised from the sale of the house to be donated to Variety – The Children’s Charity. By also employing local trades and staff, GJ Gardner Shoalhaven are actively supporting a profitable business community. Our theme this year is Connect, Communicating & Collaborating to create meaningful relationships for a sustainable, vibrant & profitable business community. How does your business work to connect the Shoalhaven Community?

Nathan, Sean and their families have owned and operated GJ Gardner Homes Shoalhaven since 2010.  Directors Nathan Fay and Sean Vickery strongly believe that you are only as good as your team. By team, they mean everyone from their staff, sub contractors, suppliers, to the greater community of the Shoalhaven. At GJ Gardner, we believe in getting your hands dirty and are happy to support our community on many levels. This year we are building a home – the “GJ Gardner Variety Freedom House” with all proceeds raised from the sale of the home being donated to Variety – The Children’s Charity. We have asked our community for support and have been overwhelmed with the response so far. We are hoping to raise more than $200,000 from the sale of the home and we love pulling the community together to work on exciting projects such as this.

How does your business differ from its competitors?

Operating as part of the GJ Gardner Homes brand franchise brings with it considerable knowledge and expertise. Nathan and Sean also possess over 30 years combined experience within the building industry. They pride themselves on continuing to connect and work with local suppliers and trades to build their homes. They have built strong alliances within the local community, employing local trades and staff to ensure each home is built to the highest quality with outstanding customer service.

What are your business’ core values and how do you uphold these?

Nathan, Sean and the team run GJ Gardner Homes Shoalhaven business according to five core values;

  1. Building honest and open relationships with our customers, staff, tradies and suppliers.
  2. Practicing what we preach through delivering a hands on approach.

The Shoalhaven Business Awards are a chance for local businesses and the community to connect and showcase the amazing work they do. It also gives great opportunity to network with other like-minded businesses and to give recognition of outstanding work and commitment in the region. It is truly amazing to see what talent lies on our doorstep – innovative international businesses created right here.

Why do you believe it is important for people to enter the Awards?

Entering the Awards is a chance to share with the local community some of the outstanding work your business is doing. By completing the written entry, it gives businesses a chance to reflect on what they have achieved, to actually analyse their success and accomplishments over the past year. Sometimes when you sit back and think about what you have done, it is simply amazing. It is also a great opportunity for businesses to recognise the efforts of their staff and people around them and celebrate their success.

We have been lucky enough to have won several awards at the Shoalhaven Business Awards over past years and this has done great things for our business. By sponsoring, we are helping to ensure that other businesses get the same opportunity to enter as we did.
